Luang Namtha
In the far north of Laos, near the Chinese border, Luang Namtha is the gateway to stunning forests, rivers, and mountain tribes.
It’s the best place in Laos for eco-trekking, kayaking, and discovering the everyday life of the country’s diverse ethnic groups.
If you love nature, culture, and authentic encounters, Luang Namtha is a must.
Why go there
Luang Namtha is surrounded by the Nam Ha National Protected Area, a vast region of jungle, rivers, and remote villages.
You can trek for one or several days with local guides, sleep in traditional homestays, and meet Akha, Khmu, and Lanten families.
It’s also a great place to relax — watch the river, cycle through rice fields, or enjoy the calm rhythm of small-town life.
